Nursery Living

I’m so excited for this post because it’s the FIRST before/after we’ve been able to do thus far! Plus it is the reveal of the nursery and that gives me the warm fuzzies. I wanted to make sure the nursery was the first room ready since babies have their own timelines. In a perfect world this house would have been ready for a Southern Living photoshoot before baby arrives but I guess SL will simply have to wait. Ok back to the reveal…

Originally this space was the formal living room. I’ve mentioned before that this house was very broken up and the living and dining were actually on different ends of the house. We knew this room would end up being a bedroom of sorts but had to put some thought into how to best use the 18 x 20 room. We ended up reconfiguring it into the nursery, a new guest bath, entryway coat closet, adjusting the location of the nursery closet, and creating a hallway. Yes that’s how much space we had from this formal living room area! We will reveal the guest bath in another entry so don’t think we are holding out. You’ll notice by clicking on the 4th photo where the slab was cut to redo all the drains. New clean pipes are always a good thing! Plus you can see the beginnings of where the guest bath will go.

With all of these adjustments the nursery is still a 13 x 20 room with plenty of space for playing! We managed to save the oversized picture window that overlooks the side yard where squirrels play and beautiful oak trees canopy the lot. The front two windows allow so much light in. Typically homes today don’t put in such big windows so we wanted to make sure to preserve the size where we could. I sure hope Baby King enjoys his room as much as we do. It’s definitely a room he can grow into and enjoy for years to come. As for the decor, we chose Benjamin Moore Crystal Blue paint color for the walls. Between the two tall windows is a cloud mural on wallpaper from a lovely artist from Mong Decor. We also incorporated a gentle nautical theme. The anchor pulls on the chest of drawers are from a delightful Etsy shop called Hooks Knobs Hardware. The rug was a very economical purchase from Overstock because lets face it, a kids room is gonna get dirty. There are also a few sentimental pieces like the hanging oar that has signatures from loved ones from our drive-by baby shower. Some of the furniture pieces are new, like the Babyletto Kiwi Glider and some were either repurposed or given to us from friends and family. Stories from the past are rooted in the older furniture pieces and the new items represent the dreams of the future.
