LAWN PARTY

Today we are focusing on clearing out and cleaning up the outside a bit.  There are some beautiful plants here (i.e. hibiscus, palms, ponytail palm, fiddle leaf fig tree, gardenias, bromeliads, bougainvillea, shell ginger and so many more) but unfortunately so much is overgrown and hidden.  There’s also really gorgeous oak trees that surround the lot and give off a sense of strength and security.  Before we can even think about landscaping we’ve got to trim and tidy up.  It’s kind of how I’m sure the stylist will feel when they see me after quarantine…A cut, color, and maybe a facelift will do the trick though. Kidding about the facelift but I wouldn’t be surprised if she traded in her shears for some hedge clippers to cut this crazy hair.  Ok ANYWAY…

Our focus in this post is the front. There is a ridiculous amount of pampas grass in the front yard covering part of the house.  It’s possible at some point it was maintained and thoughtfully placed but now its just a mess and has all kinds of other less than stellar things growing out of it too.  Plus it’s blocking the house AND we are not swingers.  Apparently pampas grass is a sign that the residents are swingers. Now think on that fun fact!

Keep in mind, you want a few feet between any vegetation and your house.  This way you don’t have roots growing too close to your foundation. With our house, we need to pressure wash the outside before we can paint and right now some of the green stuff has claimed it.  Sorry green stuff, we are taking charge! So, above you can see the pampas grass and even some vines in the first photo and then what it looks like after a tractor has had its way with it.  In the words of the wise men from NSYNC “Bye Bye Bye”.

This is just the beginning of the yard work that needs to happen but seeing this area cleared definitely gives me a “THERE you are Peter” moment with our hidden beauty. Also I hope this clears up any confusion to people driving by questioning the intention of the pampas grass.
